What is a step down transformer?
A step down transformer is an extremely useful device. It allows us to easily multiply and divide voltage and current in alternating current circuits. Indeed, the transformer has made long-distance electric power transmission a practical reality by allowing AC voltage to be “stepped up” and current to be “stepped down” for reduced wire resistance power losses along power lines connecting generating stations with loads.
Transformers reduce voltage levels at both ends (the generator and the loads) for safer operation and less expensive equipment.
A step up transformer is a transformer that increases the voltage from primary to secondary (more secondary winding turns than primary winding turns).
A step-down transformer, on the other hand, is designed to do the exact opposite.
